Problem 5.5 Projection of Planes – A thin rectangular lamina of dimensions 100 X 50 mm is resting on its shorter side in the V.P. and inclined at 40° with the H.P., such that its front view is a square of side 50 mm. Draw projection of the lamina and find its inclination with the V.P.

Procedure:

Step-1 Draw a horizontal x-y line of some suitable length.

Step-2 Draw a rectangle of dimension 100 mm X 50 mm, above the x-y line at some suitable distance as shown into the figure. And give the notations. It is the front view of the 1st stage.

Step-3 From the notations of the rectangle, draw vertical downward projectors up to the x-y line, draw a medium dark horizontal line between the length of these projectors, and give the notations as shown into the figure. It is the top view of the 1st stage.

Step-4 From the front view of the 1st stage, draw horizontal projectors from all the points in right hand side direction parallel to the x-y line. And make a square of the length 50 mm as shown in the figure. And give the notations on it. It is front view of the 2nd stage.

Step-5 From the notations in the front view of the 2nd stage, from the point a’ & d’ draw a downward projector up to the x-y line and give the name of that point as a, d. And form the point b’, c’ draw a downward projector of some suitable length such that the line of length 100 mm from the point a,d, should intersect with this projector. And give the name of that point as c,b. As shown in the figure. It is top view of the 2nd stage.

Step-6 Copy the front view of the 2nd stage as the front view of the 3rd stage such that one of the sides of the square should be inclined at the angle 40° with the x-y line, as shown in the figure. And give the notations on it. It is front view of the 3rd stage.

Step-7 From notations in the front view of the 3rd stage draw downward projectors and form the top view of the 2nd stage draw horizontal projectors in right hand side direction such that these should intersect with each other respectively. And give the notations on it. Then connect these points in sequence with medium dark straight lines. It is top view of the 3rd stage.

Step-8 Give the dimensions by any one method of dimensions and give the notations as shown into the figure.
